to the International Quantitative Research and Applications Conference 2018 (IQRAC2018)!

Universiti Putra Malaysia through the Institute for Mathematical Research (INSPEM) with the Malaysian Academy of Mathematical Scientist (AISMM) are delighted to co-organise IQRAC2018.  The conference will be held from 05 -08 August 2018, in the colourful and historic city of Kuching, the capital of the state of Sarawak, Malaysia. We will be working towards a fruitful conference where there is fertile exchange of information on the latest findings in the every changing field of mathematical sciences. As Sarawak pledges to embrace Big Data technology in their efforts for the Sarawak Digital Economy Transformation, it is apt that the IQRAC2018 conference theme reflects the relevance of the mathematical sciences in accepting the challenges of Big Data: “ Mathematical Challenges in Big Data Analytics ”.

The Organising Committee looks forward to preparing an attractive scientific programme with diverse topics to create a conducive environment suitable for encouraging and facilitating our delegates to share their knowledge and experience. The conference aims to bring together academicians, researchers, practitioners and students of the international mathematical sciences community to discuss various aspects of mathematics with particular emphasis this time on the theme “ Mathematical Challenges in Big Data Analytics ”.

Welcome to Kuching!

The venue of the conference, Kuching, is the perfect setting to highlight the chosen theme of the conference. It is the capital city of Sarawak, the Land of the Hornbills, which houses the seat of state government. Its strategic location on the banks of the Sarawak River has made it the major industrial and commercial centre of East Malaysia. Sarawak is also the largest state of Malaysia with a land mass of almost 125,000 square kilometres. The recent venture to invest in Big Data Analytics in the Digital Economy Transformation efforts reflect Sarawak’s intent to harness the power of Big Data and the research applications related to this to push forward towards economic prosperity.

Sarawak is also home to one of the oldest rainforests in the world, which houses some of the rarest flora and fauna ever discovered.  These forests sustains communities of indigenous people that still live in harmony with the land; preserving the practices of their forefathers which allow them to live off the land but not destroy the ecosystem that sustains it. These two facets of Kuching and her ways of balancing both its promising digital economy and her environmental treasure trove is an example of the delicate balance of economic prosperity Sarawak is known for and  still being able to preserve and protect the Environment; the two co-existing in perfect harmony.

Getting to know Kuching and Sarawak

Kuching means "cat" in Bahasa Malaysia. Like its name, this incredible city has its unique own brand of grace and subtlety as distinct as her people. Interesting fact- the world's first cat museum can be found in Kuching. Despite its status as a capital city and also the centre of the industrial and commercial activities for East Malaysia, Kuching is safe, clean and has a surprising number of tourist attractions. Enjoy finding out her treasures at your own pace.

From rainforest canopies to jungle wildlife, discover the diverse ecosystem of Malaysia's largest state. A state that is chasing modernity yet cloaked with its rich historical charms, Sarawak is a place where commonality and peacefulness is a way of life. A paradise for the adventure buffs, be it from the land to the sea, from mild to vigorous. Whatever the challenge, if you're ready for it, you can be sure Sarawak will give you an experience like no other.

We invite you to discover for yourself our little treasures.  We are honoured to host IQRAC2018 here in Kuching, in the great state of Sarawak.  We hope you will join us and learn, enjoy, and most importantly be a part of the IQRAC2018 conference. Organise a session, give a talk and remember to experience this great city.

The Organising Committee is looking forward to play host to all members of the mathematical science community at the IQRAC2018 Conference. See you in Kuching Sarawak, MALAYSIA for IQRAC2018!
